A thin, biodegradeable surface film has been tested in an aquarium for its ability to help corals in simulated bleaching conditions. The film was found to reduce the light reaching the corals by up to 30%, and to reduce the level of bleaching the corals underwent [1]. There doesn't seem to be much additional information available about this technique or its effectiveness.
